This Crispy Egg Cheese Toast is an easy 10-minute breakfast made with golden buttery bread, fluffy egg, and melted cheddar cheese.

Pair it with Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta for a bigger spread.

It is crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, and requires only a few everyday ingredients.

Perfect for busy mornings, quick lunches, or an easy savory snack.

Ingredients

  • Main Ingredients
  • 2 slices soft sandwich bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese, or about 50 g shredded cheddar
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • Optional Ingredients
  • 30 g shredded mozzarella
  • Chopped green onions
  • Chili flakes
  • Paprika
  • Fresh parsley
  • Turkey ham
  • Sliced tomato
  • Hot sauce
  • Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Step 1 — Prepare the Egg
  2. Crack the egg into a small bowl.
  3. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper.
  4. Whisk with a fork until the yolk and white are completely combined.
  5. Step 2 — Cook the Egg
  6. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-low heat.
  7. Add a small amount of the butter.
  8. Pour the beaten egg into the pan.
  9. Let it cook for about 1–2 minutes until just set.
  10. Avoid overcooking the egg because it will continue cooking slightly inside the sandwich.
  11. Remove the egg from the pan.
  12. Step 3 — Assemble the Toast
  13. Place one slice of bread on a clean cutting board.
  14. Add one slice of cheddar cheese.
  15. Place the cooked egg over the cheese.
  16. Add the second slice of cheddar on top.
  17. Close with the second slice of bread.
  18. Step 4 — Toast the Sandwich
  19. Return the frying pan to medium-low heat.
  20. Add the remaining butter.
  21. Place the sandwich in the pan.
  22. Cook for about 2 minutes until the bottom becomes golden brown and crispy.
  23. Step 5 — Flip
  24. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
  25. Cook the second side for another 1–2 minutes.
  26. Press gently with the spatula while cooking to help the cheese melt.
  27. Step 6 — Serve
  28. Transfer the toast to a cutting board.
  29. Let it rest for about 30 seconds.
  30. Cut diagonally in half.
  31. Serve immediately while the bread is crispy and the cheese is hot and melted.
  32. Chef Tips
  33. Use Medium-Low Heat
  34. Do not use very high heat.
  35. High heat can burn the bread before the cheese has enough time to melt.
  36. Medium-low heat creates a crispy golden crust while warming the center evenly.
  37. Use Soft Bread
  38. Standard sandwich bread works especially well because it crisps quickly and holds the filling together.
  39. Combine Two Cheeses
  40. For more flavor and a better cheese pull, combine cheddar with mozzarella.
  41. Cheddar gives strong flavor while mozzarella gives a softer melted texture.
  42. Don’t Overcook the Egg
  43. Keep the egg soft because it will continue heating inside the sandwich.
  44. Add Butter Gradually
  45. A small amount of butter on each side of the sandwich gives better browning than using too much at once.
